NATCHEZ &045;&045; Local and state authorities are looking for the final two suspects to close the book on a shoplifting ring that’s hit several Mississippi towns and produced at least $10,000 in stolen goods.
Arrest warrants are out on Bobbie D. Woods, 33, 38 Brenham Ave., and Kela Horton, 24, of Gloster, who are suspected to be in the Natchez area.
Adams County residents Jennifer Thompson, Letrice Ellis and Kawana Jones have already been arrested in connection with the case, authorities said.
All five are suspects in several Wal-Mart shoplifting incidents.
The investigation was started by Wal-Mart security but quickly grew to include the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, the Natchez Police Department and the Adams County Sheriffs Office.
Wal-Mart security tapes in Jackson, Hattiesburg, Columbia and McComb caught the crimes on tape, Adams County Sheriff Ronny Brown said.
Thompson was arrested first in McComb and she gave MBI information about the other suspects.
Because Thompson is a Natchez native, investigators approached NPD, which was able to identify the other people on the tape.
Ellis was arrested next and is currently in jail in Hattiesburg.
Jones turned herself in to an Adams County judge Wednesday.
All five face charges of felony shoplifting.
The agencies recovered $10,000 worth of merchandise from East Wilderness Road last week. Brown said the items were from Fred’s JC Penney and Wal-Mart.
&uot;They stole everything from toothpaste to 34-inch flat screen TVs,&uot; he said. &uot;They get the greeter at the door and ask for a chair for the handicapped.&uot;
While the greeter is occupied, another person rolls a fully stocked shopping cart out the door, he said.
Stolen merchandise included TVs and five laptop computers and took up two truckloads, Brown said.
&uot;We don’t know how much more it will lead to,&uot; he said.
The two local agencies are assisting the MBI by providing information and serving warrants.
Brown asked anyone with information to call any of the agencies or Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000. A reward is being offered.
