FERRIDAY, La. &045; District 4 Justice of the Peace Gary Stallings will handle cases in District 1 Justice Justin L. Conner’s jurisdiction for the next few months, a Louisiana Supreme Court ruling said.
Conner, who works as an administrative assistant for the Town of Ferriday, was temporarily removed from his duties as Justice of the Peace by a July Louisiana Supreme Court decision. The decision removed him from active duties because of indictments on multiple charges related to alleged voter fraud in a March 2004 election in Ferriday.
A second supreme court decision July 22 put Stallings as justice of the peace pro tempore in Conner’s place, effective Aug. 1 through Dec. 31 &uot;or until further notice of this court,&uot; the decision said.
Stallings, a resident of Ferriday, will take on District 1 cases in addition to his work in District 4.
Conner will continue to receive his monthly salary of $150 &045; $75 each from the state and the Concordia Parish police jury &045; while he is suspended.
In addition to the $150 salary, justices also receive money from court costs in cases they try.
Stallings will receive money from additional cases he tries, but will not receive any more money in salary.
Stallings said Thursday he doesn’t think it will be difficult to handle the additional workload.
