NATCHEZ &045; A suspected Natchez car burglar picked the wrong car to scavenge last week.
Arthur Richardson, 34, 1000 Cedric St., Brookhaven, was arrested Friday when he was found by a Natchez police officer inside the officer’s personal car, Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said The vehicle, not a NPD car, was parked on North Union Street. It had been left unlocked.
Richardson had a missing cell phone from a Thursday car burglary on Jefferson Street. He has been charged with burglary of a vehicle in both cases and is being held at the city jail with no bond because of holds for the Department of Corrections and Lincoln County.
Mullins said investigations continue to determine if Richardson is linked to other recent burglaries.
Two downtown businesses were broken into over the weekend, and small amounts of change were taken.
The business burglaries follow two others last week. No arrest has been made, but Mullins said investigators had a suspect they were trying to locate.
