Miss-Lou full of good news during last week

Here’s a look at the good news that made headlines last week in and around Natchez:

The Concordia Narcotics Task Force found their largest seizure of drugs ever Wednesday.

Two pounds of powder cocaine, valued at about $100,000 on the street, were inside canisters covered in camouflage tape, surrounded by 12 pit bulls, in the woods behind a Doty Road house.

Teamwork by the Mississippi Agriculture Department, the FBI, Ferriday police, Louisiana State Police and the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office resulted in the bust.

While it’s not good news that such a large amount can be found in the Miss-Lou, the teamwork that made the bust happen &045; and the fact this much cocaine is off the streets &045; certainly is.

The Natchez-Adams School District is one of 49 state schools to receive the title of &uot;Super System for Quality Schools&uot; for the 2004-2005 year.

That designation means the district has all eligible elementary, middle and secondary schools accredited.

The goal of the accreditation process is to help schools improve teaching and student learning through self-analysis.

The Concordia Parish School District received a grant of almost $90,000 from the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education for new computers and software for kindergarten classrooms.

This year, kindergartners at Ferriday Lower Elementary and Monterey School will get new computers and software as part of the &uot;Reading: The Key to a Better Tomorrow&uot; project. During the 2006-07 school year, Vidalia Lower Elementary will get the new equipment.

Here’s hoping this week’s full of good news.
