Parish rec board off to a good start

Talk about a model of civility. The new members of the Concordia Parish Recreation District No. 1 board met Thursday night and got started on the right foot, agreeing that their work is, first and foremost, for the children.
The board members, who are replacing a board that rarely had a quorum for its meetings, seem to be off and running with plans for recreation in their communities.
Among the first things on their agenda: finding a way to open the swimming pool in Ferriday and finding new summer programs, including activities for Wildsville, which does not currently have any recreation opportunities.
Throughout the meeting, members stressed that they were there primarily to help the children. Most are parents, and some are grandparents, but they said they are interested in helping all of the children.
Some of the board members have experience working in recreation; others have had no exposure to work on such a board but were willing to step forward to help.
Throughout the meeting, the new board members treated each other with respect &045; and treated their task with enthusiasm.
Members said they hoped to cooperate with each other, even when they disagreed. All said they were honored to serve and hoped to work hard to accomplish their goals.
The rec board is just one of many volunteer boards across the Miss-Lou who work hard to help the community.
It’s unfortunate &045; and actually rare for such a group &045; that the previous recreation board did not have enough participation, but we’re glad to see this board already seems committed and has its eye on the right goals for the community. We wish them well.
