DOES ANYONE KNOW Š
Š Sarah Graham (
cpamiller@intop.net
) is researching her grandfather JOHN GEORGE GRAHAM prior to 1898 when he married her grandmother, MARTHA ANN MAUM of Rankin County, MS. Through the Internet she has found a couple who could be his parents, ROBERT GRAHAM of NC, KY, and TN and MARY CARSON(?) GRAHAM. After Robert’s death in about 1832, Mary married EBENEEZER PICKETT in Lincoln County, TN. In the 1850 Census Mary Graham Pickett was living in Lincoln County, TN in a household containing Ebeneezer (who died between 1850-1860), four Graham children, 7 year old SARAH CARSON, and a 22 year old female named AMY FAULKNER. By the 1860 Census, Mary lived in a household with son, DODSON OR DOTSON GRAHAM ( born in 1822 in KY); ELIZABETH GRAHAM (born in 1820 in KY); CATHERINE GRAHAM ( born in 1825 in KY); JOHN J. GRAHAM (born 1832 in Lincoln County, TN) with his wife, SUSAN MARY (?) BARKER (married 30 Sept 1857) and a son JAMES R. GRAHAM (age 1) and a SAMANTHA (?). John J. was a Confederate Pvt., Company A44 Tenn, Consolidated Infantry Lincoln-Bedford, Tenn area in 1862. It is believed that this person is Sarah’s grandfather, John George Graham who was born in December 1862 and that he is possibly the second child of John J. and Susan Barker Graham. Family legend has it that John George’s father was in the Civil War and that his mother died in childbirth. In 1880 at age 17, John G. Graham was working at a brick plant and living in Lauderdale County, MS., just south of Meridian at a place known as Graham Switch. He was living with the family of D.H. BARKER (born in 1840 in GA) and EMILY C. BARKER (aged 35, born in MS.) In adult life, John G. lived and worked around New Augusta, Richton and Lumberton, MS, where he worked as a brick mason. He died in 1917 leaving a wife and 7 children. Three children predeceased him and are buried around Richton and Lumberton. John George was buried in Rankin County, MS, in 1917. Does any reader have information on this family? Can anyone prove who John’s parents were?
