Vidalia stays in playoff picture

VIDALIA, La. &8212; Vidalia needed a win to stay in the district title hunt.

Demack Bates made sure the Vikings got it, scoring four touchdowns and running for 145 yards to lead Vidalia to a 36-14 victory over Madison on Friday night.

&8220;After nine weeks we look like a football team,&8221; Vidalia coach Dee Faircloth said. &8220;They ran the heck out of the (Notre Dame) box and kept us off the field.&8221;

Vidalia established its dominance early, as Bates scored from 10 yards out to give the Vikings a 8-0 lead ending the first quarter of play.

In the second quarter, Bates added another touchdown for a 16-0 halftime lead.

In the second half Vidalia continued to play well. Bates returned the second-half kickoff 80 yards for a 24-0 lead.

Madison avoided the shutout in the third quarter on a 11-yard run by Cody Atkins for a score.

Bates replied with another touchdown, a 14-yard run to give the Vikings at 30-8 advantage.

In the fourth quarter both teams scored one more time.

Vidalia running back Jeremy Randal scored from 35 yards out to give the Vikings a 36-8 lead.

Madison&8217;s Antonio Turner ended the scoring with 19-yard TD run.

At the end of the night

Demack Bates ran the ball 145 yards on just 34 carries.

Vidalia quarterback Brandon Hawkins went 8-of-11 passing for 167 yards with no interceptions.

The defense for Vidalia held Madison to only 114 yards total for the night.

Vidalia hosts Ferriday next week for the district title.
