VIDALIA &8212; Think back to the bike you had as a child.

Concordia Parish Sheriff Randy Maxwell wants to help local children who can&8217;t afford a bicycle of their own.

&8220;Every kid needs a bike &8212; that&8217;s my motto,&8221; he said.

That&8217;s why the sheriff&8217;s office is gearing up for its annual bicycle drive for area youth. Bicycles, tricycles and other riding toys in any condition can be dropped off behind the new courthouse in Vidalia.

Inmates will clean, repair and repaint the bicycles so that they can be distributed to local children during the holiday season. Any bikes beyond repair will be used for parts.

&8220;The people of the Miss-Lou and the inmates have made this possible over the years,&8221; Sheriff Randy Maxwell said. &8220;This is an extremely worthwhile project. Nothing is better than making a child happy at Christmas.&8221;

Individuals or businesses interested in making monetary donations can make them to the sheriff&8217;s office. Call 318-336-5231 for more information.
