NATCHEZ &8212; Main Street Market Place will be glowing with TV lights long before most folks get up today, but the owners don&8217;t really know why.
CBS&8217;s &8220;The Early Show&8221; contacted owner Mike Byrne about setting up in his restaurant, but they didn&8217;t tell him much about what to expect.
&8220;They want us to serve a plate of beignets to the anchor woman,&8221; Byrne said. &8220;They said it&8217;ll be about 15 seconds of us, then she&8217;ll go to a story.&8221;
The CBS crew was in Lake Charles, La., Tuesday morning, Alexandria, La., Tuesday afternoon and was scheduled to spend Tuesday night at Monmouth in Natchez.
The crew was scheduled to set up at the Market Place at 5:30 a.m. today. They were to go live sometime between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m.
The Market Place opened its doors to the public at 6 a.m. to serve free beignets and coffee.
&8220;The more people here the better,&8221; Byrne said.
Byrne said he&8217;s spent sometime following the show in recent days and suspects their segment may be something about the dietary value of what people in different parts of the country eat, but he&8217;s just guessing.
Through phone conversations with CBS, Byrne learned the station heard about Natchez, did some Web research and decided to come to his place.
And whether the publicity is good or bad, Byrne said he&8217;s glad to have it.
&8220;We are excited,&8221; he said. &8220;We&8217;ll be cleaning until midnight.&8221;
