NATCHEZ &8212; The official Macy&8217;s Santa Claus is coming to Natchez Monday, and he&8217;s bringing toys for every boy and girl.
The Santa from the Macy&8217;s Thanksgiving Day parade is part of the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots tour of the gulf coast region.
Santa&8217;s workshop &8212; a custom-built trailer with stage and elves &8212; will be in the Big Lots parking lot on U.S. 61 North at 10 a.m.
Santa and his elves will put on a live show, singing seasonal songs and making toys. And he&8217;ll even make it snow every 15 minutes, said Debbie Payton of Rooftop MediaWorks.
Every child that comes will get a toy from the Marines, and all will have the chance for a personal visit and photo with Santa.
This is the first time for the traveling workshop, Payton said. The 53-city tour is across Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas and is aimed to touch the areas affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
&8220;While we cannot fully understand what the families are going through as they rebuild their lives and their community, we are hopeful that our support and contribution to the region will assist them in their time of need,&8221; said Susanne Lyons, executive vice president of Visa USA.
Visa is sponsoring the tour.
Toys for Tots, a nationwide program, collects new, unwrapped toys in October, November and December to distribute to needy children.
Payton said the tour drew more than 2,000 children in Foley, Ala., last week, but it wasn&8217;t necessary for anyone to come early. The trailer will not be set up and the show won&8217;t start until 10 a.m., and there will be plenty of toys to go around, she said.
