KIEV, Ukraine – A bus taking vacationers to the Black Sea overturned when its brakes failed, killing six people and injuring 46, emergency officials said Thursday.
The bus, carrying 52 passengers and two drivers, crashed late Wednesday while going down a steep hill near the Black Sea resort of Alushta, emergency situations ministry spokesman Volodymyr Ivanov said.
The crash occurred in the same place where 17 people were killed in a bus accident three years ago. A wall constructed after that accident prevented the bus from falling into a ravine.
Ivanov said 21 people were hospitalized in serious condition.
The bus was traveling from Uman, a small town near Kiev, to Yalta on the Black Sea.
