NATCHEZ &8212; If anything else, Cathedral head coach Kathy Graning had to just point to the other team in green jerseys and show her young club how it&8217;s done.

Especially on a night like Friday night, when starters Mattie Smith and Brandi McGraw were unavailable.

That&8217;s about the only benefit of being on the receiving end of a 60-26 defeat at home to the Lady Bears. The Lady Wave (0-2, 1-9) stayed with West Lincoln in the first quarter before turnovers and missed shots gave the visitors opportunities to pull away.

&8220;They can shoot &8212; they can shoot the lights out,&8221; Graning said of West Lincoln. &8220;They spend hours and hours in the gym. That&8217;s what it takes. I hope I can convince my young ones that. You have to spend time in the gym. Mine are involved in so many activities. You&8217;re not going to get good in an hour and a half or two hours in practice.&8221;

Credit the Lady Wave for sticking with West Lincoln in the first quarter by handling the press and playing proper assignments in the zone. But when turnovers started happening in the full-court and the Lady Bears converted them into points, things went downhill fast.

Kristian Dobard&8217;s bucket was the Lady Wave&8217;s only contribution in a 21-2 West Lincoln run. Talashia Fells&8217; bucket underneath at the 3:27 mark put the lead at 31-6.

The lead got to 37-8 before Caitlin Huffines and Alex Nickels put in buckets to put the deficit at 37-12 at halftime.

&8220;It&8217;s the same ol&8217; stuff, it seems like,&8221; Graning said. &8220;Just missing easy shots under the goal. I still don&8217;t think they&8217;re 32 points better than us. They just got hot. If we play 32 minutes of basketball like we&8217;re capable of playing, I think we can be right there with them. I have no doubt about that. Convincing them after being down for so long is the hardest part.&8221;

Claire Kenda and Nickels each scored eight to lead Cathedral. Brittnee Smith led West Lincoln with 23 thanks to 17 in the second quarter.

Ferriday 49, Davidson 30

FERRIDAY &8212; The Ferriday Lady Trojans welcomed back senior point guard Jameca Garrison to the lineup, and she responded by scoring 10 points as they defeated the Davidson Lady Warriors 49-30 Friday night in the semifinals of the Ferriday Tournament.

Garrison was one of three Lady Trojans to score in double figures as they rallied from a 9-8 deficit at the end of the first quarter. This was the first game of the season for Garrison, who was suspended for breaking a team rule.

&8220;She played quite a bit,&8221; Ferriday head coach Lisa Abron said. &8220;She didn&8217;t play the first quarter, but she played the rest of the game. We&8217;ve been having a little bit of comraderie without her and now we&8217;ve got her back.&8221;

Led by Garrison, Jasmine Upchurch and Roneisha Charles, Ferriday (10-1) broke open a close game in the second half. The Lady Trojans outscored Davidson (3-7) 17-8 in the third quarter and 12-4 in the fourth quarter.

Upchurch led the Lady Trojans with 13 points.

&8220;She (Garrison) pushed the ball up,&8221; Abron said. &8220;We scored a lot of fast-break points. Her legs are not quite what they need to be. She got kind of winded. Hopefully she can learn the new players and the new players can learn her kind of style.

Block 76, Vidalia 22

FERRIDAY &8212; This semifinal game in the Ferriday Tournament was over before the first quarter was over and by the time that quarter was over the Lady Bears had a commanding 20-1 lead.

Ashley Green led Block (8-4) with 23 points and Corinthia Green had 21 points. Chelsea McElwee and Rachael Wagoner led Vidalia (0-9) with eight points each.

Block will take on Ferriday in the girls championship game today at 6 p.m.

Huntington 57, Central School 37

FERRIDAY &8212; Make it two wins in a row for the Lady Hounds as dominated the second half to break open a close game and got a big game from Jessie Lee.

Huntington (2-12) led by just one point, 27-26, at halftime, but turned on the defensive intensity in the second half to turn the momentum in its favor. The Lady Hounds outscored Central a combined 30-11 in the second half.

Central had no answer for Lee, who led all scorers with 27 points.

Wilkinson Christian 41, Prentiss Christian 23

WOODVILLE &8212; A pair of 12-6 advantages in the middle two quarters were enough to help the Lady Rams get back in the win column in District 6-A with a big win over the Lady Saints.

Cary Benton led WCCA (4-2, 4-4) with a game-high 13 points. Kacy Lightsey led Prentiss Christian with 11 points.

Oak Forest 42, Trinity Episcopal 34

AMITE, La. &8212; The Lady Saints (2-1, 7-5) had no answer for the Lady Yellow Jackets&8217; duo of Chelsie Butler and Elizabeth Lee, who combined for 29 points in a big win in District 4-AA action.

Trinity&8217;s leading scorer, Mallory Archer, on the other hand, was able to get much going against a good Oak Forest defense, which held her to just nine points.

Franklin County 48, South Pike 40

SUMMIT &8212; In a battle of which team could end up being the team to beat in Region 7-3A, the Lady Bulldogs came up with a huge win on the road against a good Lady Eagles team.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in 7-3A and 5-0 overall while the Lady Eagles fell to 2-1 in 7-3A and 9-3 overall. No other information was available as of press time.

Wilkinson County 54, West Marion 44

FOXWORTH &8212; The Lady Wildcats improved to 2-1 in Region 7-3A and 8-5 overall with a big win over the Lady Trojans, who dropped to 0-3 in 7-3A and 7-3 overall.
