Ferriday puts away pesky Vidalia for tourney crown

FERRIDAY &8212; Unlike the previous two meetings between these two rivals, Ferriday had to rally in the fourth quarter to defeat Vidalia to win the boys championship of the Ferriday Tournament.

Charles Jefferson led Ferriday with 13 points and Eric Crump had 10 points as the Trojans took a 43-34 win. Shaffer Polk, Jacob McGraw and Jeremy Riggs led Vidalia with six points each.

How close was this game? Vidalia and Ferriday were tied at 12-12 at the end of the first quarter and 23-23 at halftime. Neither team was able to get double digits in scoring in the third quarter, yet it was Vidalia (8-5) who outscored Ferriday 8-7 to take a 31-30 into the fourth quarter.

But the Trojans (11-1) turned up the defensive intensity in the fourth quarter, forcing several turnovers and forcing the Vikings to take a lot of contested shots. The result was a 13-3 advantage for the home team.

Tensas Academy 63, Central School 51

ST. JOSEPH, La. &8212; The Tensas Chiefs didn&8217;t have big leads after each of the first three quarters, but they continued to increase their lead throughout most of the game en route to a 63-51 win over the Central School Pioneers Saturday afternoon.

Tensas (5-6) got solid performances from Cody Hill, Matt Vinson and Ryan Borsch in the win, with Hill and Vinson each collecting a double-double. Hill finished with 16 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Chiefs.

Vinson had one of the best games of his career with 14 points and 13 rebounds to go along with six blocked shots while Borsch also had 14 points.

Tensas led 11-8 after one quarter of play, 28-21 at halftime and 46-33 at the end of the third quarter.

For the second straight game, Ryan Miguez scored 22 points for Central (5-6).
