HARRISONBURG &8212; When the game started early and three starters had yet to arrive, Cathedral head coach Peter Arnold had a sick feeling in his stomach.
He likely wasn&8217;t alone.
Starters Keylann Hinson, Matthew Hall and Alex Middleton were unable to play the first half after the three took the ACT test Saturday morning, and the game&8217;s early start compounded the problem. The Green Wave had better results in the second half but dropped a 59-47 contest to Class 3A Caldwell at the Harrisonburg tournament.
Caldwell used the win to advance to the tournament championship that night.
&8220;I feel bad for our seniors,&8221; Arnold said. &8220;Here was a chance for us to get to the tournament final. Because of the circumstances, we weren&8217;t able to play a full game and couldn&8217;t give them our best shot. I&8217;m not going to say we would have won the game. They might have beaten us anyway, but they definitely didn&8217;t get our best shot. That&8217;s a shame.&8221;
The Green Wave (6-4) had better results in the second half after trailing 24-17 at the break after starting with a lineup of Matt Goss, Matt Marchbanks, Andy Lucas, Geoffrey Martin and Patrick McDonough.
But the Wave never could cut the deficit to anything tight. The Spartans led 40-29 heading into the fourth quarter.
Goss&8217; 17 points was tops for Cathedral.
&8220;We kept ourselves in the game until the rest of the guy got there,&8221; Arnold said. &8220;Goss played pretty well offensively, but we didn&8217;t have our inside presence. They hit a lot of perimeter shots that kept us at bay. They did what they needed to do.&8221;

FERRIDAY &8212; There weren&8217;t any signs of letdown in this one. A night after getting a huge win over Trinity Episcopal in Natchez, the Hounds didn&8217;t waste any time from the start.
Their 22-10 run to start the first quarter set the tone, and the Hounds (9-1) used an 18-12 edge in the second to lead 40-22 at halftime. Their 23-13 edge in the fourth put the score at 63-35 heading into the fourth quarter.
Trey Corbett led Huntington with 13.

JONESVILLE &8212; The Trojans&8217; defense was too much at the start, and the score indicated it: Ferriday 39, Block 8.
The Trojans (9-1) led 20-6 after one and out-scored the Bears 19-2 in the second quarter. Their 18-11 edge in the third put the score at 57-19 heading into the fourth quarter.
Antonio Burns&8217; 20 points was tops for the Trojans.

NATCHEZ &8212; The Saints bounced back from Friday night&8217;s loss with a win in a game that mattered more &8212; it was a District 4-AA contest.
The Saints (2-0, 5-2) wasted little time at the start with a 15-9 lead after one and a 31-23 lead at the break. Their 17-9 run in the third put their lead at 48-32 heading into the fourth quarter.
Stevan Ridley led Trinity with 17.
