WOODVILLE &8212; Not many people gave the Wilkinson Christian Rams much of a chance to defeat the Prentiss Christian Saints, which came into Friday night&8217;s District 6-A game undefeated and ranked No. 5 in Class A.

Apparently, someone forgot to tell that to the Rams as the offense got going in the second half and the defense came up big in the fourth quarter en route to a stunning 62-51 win over the Saints.

&8220;We just couldn&8217;t get a shot to fall in the first half,&8221; Rams head coach Ray Olive III said. &8220;I told them at halftime that everything was working. The shots just weren&8217;t falling.&8221;

Because of that Joseph Landry, one of WCCA&8217;s leading scorers, had just two points in the first half as the Rams trailed 21-16 at halftime.

Then with the help of Eli Ashley, the Rams got right back in the game despite the Saints&8217; Tyler Burrow having a big third quarter of his own. WCCA outscored Prentiss Christian 24-20 in the third quarter to trail by just one point, 41-40, heading into the fourth quarter.

Ashley had 12 of his 18 points in the third quarter while Landry had 21 of his game-high 23 points in the second half.

&8220;In the fourth quarter we went to a man (defense),&8221; Olive said. &8220;Tyler Burrow hit three threes in the third quarter. We put pressure on the ball outside and made them get the ball inside.&8221;

The result was a 22-10 advantage in the fourth quarter as the Saints turned the ball several times, which led to easy baskets for the Rams.

&8220;We knew it was a matter of time before they pulled it together,&8221; Olive said. &8220;Right now we&8217;re on a three-game winning streak in district. They&8217;ve learned how to play together.&8221;

Huntington

57, Central School 45

FERRIDAY &8212; With the Hounds leading Central 55-31 after three quarters of play, head coach David Boydstun decided to go to the bench. It&8217;s a good thing the Hounds had that big of a lead because they managed just two points in that quarter.

Brent Bradley led Huntington (10-1) with 18 points and Tony Jordan had 15 points. Ryan Miguez led Central with a game-high 22 points.

Huntington opened up a close game by outscoring Central a combined 42-18 in the second and third quarters.

Huntington&8217;s scheduled games for today against University Christian Prep have been cancelled.

Trinity Episcopal 39, Oak Forest 29

AMITE, La. &8212; It wasn&8217;t pretty, but a win is a win and the Saints were able to hold on for the 10-point win in this District 4-AA game after holding the Yellow Jackets to just seven points in the first half.

Stevan Ridley led Trinity (3-0, 7-2) with 11 points. Lathan Campo led Oak Forest with a game-high 13 points.

Vidalia 66, Newellton 58

FERRIDAY &8212; Jarvis Whitley and Jacob McGraw scored 14 points to lead four Vidalia players in double figures as the Vikings overcame Marcus Hill&8217;s 28-point performance to defeat the Bears in the semifinals of the Ferriday tournament.

Vidalia (8-4) led by 16 points at halftime, then had to hold off a furious rally by Newellton in the second half. The Vikings will play Ferriday in the boys championship game today at 7:30 p.m.

South Pike 55, Franklin County 53

SUMMIT &8212; The Eagles held off the Bulldogs&8217; bid of an upset win to stay undefeated in Region 7-3A at 3-0 and improve to 10-2 overall.

Ferriday 78, Davidson 30

FERRIDAY &8212; The Trojans (10-1) stayed hot, and this time the outcome of their meeting with Davidson in the semifinals of the FHS tournament was worse than the first meeting.

Chalk most of it up to a 29-4 lead after the first quarter, and the Trojans had the game in hand. They led 47-16 at half before out-scoring the Warriors 17-4 in the third to lead 64-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

Eric Crump led Ferriday with 22 points. The Trojans will play Vidalia at 7:30 p.m. today for the tournament championship.
