ROLLING FORK &8212; First the Huntington Hounds made a statement by defeating Porter&8217;s Chapel, the fifth-ranked team in Class A.
Then on Friday night, the Hounds took care of the Sharkey-Issaquena on its home court 51-47 to win the boys championship of SIA Tournament.
&8220;We played real disciplined, and we took care of the ball,&8221; Hounds head coach David Boydstun said. &8220;It was a big win. Sharkey made us work real hard for this one. They had a good game plan. They took care of the ball. They got people open and got good shots.&8221;
The second and third quarters proved to be the difference in the Hounds&8217; big win as they outscored the Confederates 14-11 in the second quarter and 15-10 in the third quarter to take a 40-33 lead. Sharkey-Issaquena tried to rally in the fourth quarter, but it was not meant to be on this night.
Huntington had a good balanced scoring attack that kept the Confederates from trying to stop one player in particular. Ricky Dunbar led the Hounds with 15 points and Antonio Jordan had 12 points. Both made the All-Tournament team.
The game was tied at 41-41 early in the fourth. Then the Hounds went on an 8-2 run to take a 49-43 lead and seemed to be in control of the game. But the Confederates&8217; defense got them back in the game.
Seth Brown, tournament MVP, gave Huntington&8217;s defense fits throughout the game and led the Confederates with a game-high 26 points..
Ferriday at Sicily Island Tournament
SICILY ISLAND, La. &8212; Delhi&8217;s stingy defense made it tough for Ferriday to get any kind of offensive rhythm going as the Bears rolled to a surprisingly easy 56-34 win over the Trojans in the Sicily Island Tournament championship.
Crump and Laderrick combined to score 35 points. The Trojans bounced Sicily Island 55-39 in the semifinals earlier.
Crump led Ferriday with a game-high 20 points and Metcalf had a solid game with 15 points.
