Wave, NHS fall in road contests

SALEM &8212; The Cathedral Green Wave had no answer for Dexter&8217;s Rico Haynes, who scored a game-high 36 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 75-64 win Friday night in a pivotal Region 7-1A game for both teams at the Salem gym.
&8220;We played well. We played real aggressive,&8221; Arnold said. &8220;(Matt) Goss played well. The whole game was in spurts. We would score eight in a row and they would score six or eight in a row.&8221;
After trailing 33-25 at halftime, Cathedral (0-3, 7-9) got back in the game by scoring 24 points in the third quarter. Even though they trailed by four going into the fourth quarter, the Green Wave had momentum on their side.
Wingfield 83, Natchez High 66
JACKSON &8212; The Falcons broke a 19-19 tie after one quarter of play by outscoring the Bulldogs 21-16 in the second quarter and then put the game out of reach with a 19-11 advantage in the third quarter.
Columbia 63, Wilkinson County 48
COLUMBIA &8212; Despite having a 19-10 advantage in the second quarter, the host Wildcats, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, weren&8217;t able to put away the visiting Wildcats from Woodville until the fourth quarter of this Region 7-3A game with a 20-11 edge.
Crystal Springs 57, Jefferson County 54
FAYETTE &8212; Trailing 27-26 at halftime, Crystal Springs (3-2, 9-9 took a 42-39 lead after three quarters of play thanks to a 16-12 advantage in the third quarter. Kenneth Lowe led Jefferson County (0-4, 5-9) with 14 points.
Ferriday 69, Sicily Island 39
SICILY ISLAND, La. &8212; The third quarter proved to be a different story as the Trojans&8217; defense forced several turnovers en route to a 30-point outburst.
Monterey 47, Harrisonburg 37
MONTEREY, La. &8212; A tenacious defense by Monterey (5-13) helped turn a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter into an 11-point lead at halftime as the Wolves defeated the Bulldogs for the first time in 10 years.
WCCA 58, Christian Collegiate 35
GULFPORT &8212; The Rams broke open a close game in District 6-A action by outscoring CCA 18-7 in the second quarter and 13-2 in the third.
Joseph Landry led WCCA (5-2, 6-7) with a game-high 26 points.
