FAYETTE &045; Perhaps the &8220;Rocky III&8221; theme song &045; &8220;Eye of the Tiger&8221; &045; should have blared from the speakers on Friday night.
It would have been appropriate, especially for forward Kadon Day.
Jefferson County controlled the tempo against a quick Hazlehurst squad, and Day scored 32 points to lead the Tigers to a 71-61 victory.
&8220;We knew they were an up-tempo team and slowed the game down and did not give them turnovers&8221; Jefferson County head coach Marcus Walton said.
Jefferson County made four 3-pointers in the third quarter to build a 36-27 halftime lead, and Tigers led 52-42 after three quarters.
Hazlehurst rallied in the fourth quarter, scoring 19 points, but Jefferson County held on for the victory.
Cathedral 64, St. Aloysius 57
NATCHEZ &8212; Cathedral picked the right time to deliver its biggest win of the season &8212; Senior Night at the Roy A. Garcia Memorial Gym.
While Matt Goss had 26 points and eight rebounds, Juan Gray replaced injured Matt Marchbanks and finished with 17 points as the Green Wave upset St. Aloysius 64-57 Friday night in Region 7-1A action.
&8220;It&8217;s Senior Night, so it was a big emotional game against a (region) opponent,&8221; Green Wave head coach Peter Arnold said. &8220;Juan played great. He hit some big shots for us and took care of the ball. He had three assists and only two turnovers. Matt hurt his hand in the third quarter and didn&8217;t play the rest of the game.&8221;
Cathedral (3-7, 10-14) outscored St. Al 22-12 in the second quarter to take a 35-30 halftime lead, and the Green Wave used switching defenses to keep the Flashes off balance.
&8220;We played man until the end of the third quarter,&8221; Arnold said. &8220;We went back to the 2-3 zone. We did a good job of keeping them off balance. We outhustled them to the loose balls. We rebounded the ball well. We played good defense.&8221;
And being that it was Senior Night, the home crowd was also a big factor in the game.
&8220;We were feeding off the energy of the crowd and the student section,&8221; Arnold said. &8220;We wanted it more than they did.&8221;
Arnold described the win as a huge confidence booster for his team with the Region 7-1A Tournament about a week and a half away.
Chris Johnson and Chase Smith led St. Aloysius with 17 points each.
Wilkinson County Christian 60, Ben&8217;s Ford 47
WOODVILLE &8212; The Eagles stayed point for point with the Rams in the first half, which ended in a 27-27 tie, but the Rams put the game away with a 21-10 advantage in the fourth quarter en route to the win in the semifinals of the MPSA District 6-A Tournament at WCCA.
Eli Ashley had 17 points and Joseph Landry had 15 points to lead the Rams.
No. 2 seed Wilkinson Christian (10-10) will take on No. 1 seed and 18-2 Lamar Christian, a 61-50 winner over No. 5 seed Amite School Center, in the championship game today at 6:30 p.m.
Franklin County 67, West Marion 50
WESSON &8212; After an overtime loss to Columbia Tuesday night, Franklin County (8-3, 11-7) got back on the winning track with an impressive win over the Trojans in a Region 7-3A game.
Brookhaven Academy 68, Trinity Episcopal 43
CLINTON, La. &8212; The No. 1-seeded Cougars proved why they are No. 1 in Class AA with a win over the Saints in the semifinals of the MPSA District 4-AA Tournament.
Two main factors determined the outcome of this game &8212; free-throw shooting and three-pointers. Brookhaven Academy (27-1) finished 12-of-17 from the free-throw line, while Trinity Episcopal (15-8) was just 5-of-18. The Cougars made eight three-pointers while the Saints made none.
The Saints will take on the loser of the Centreville/Columbia Academy game in the consolation game today at 5 p.m. Brookhaven Academy will face the winner of that game in the championship game today at 8 p.m.
Ferriday 59, Lake Providence 22
FERRIDAY &8212; The third time was indeed the charm as the Trojans finally picked up their 20th win of the season with a lopsided win over the Panthers in a District 4-2A game.
How bad things go for Lake Providence (0-5, 4-16) in this game? The Panthers scored just one point in the fourth quarter. Eric Crump led Ferriday (3-2, 20-9) with 20 points.
Tylertown 56, Wilkinson County 50
TYLERTOWN &8212; After the Wildcats cut a seven-point halftime deficit to just two, the Chiefs held on for the win in a Region 7-3A game.

Keith Williams led Madison (5-0, 20-6) with 19 points. Jarvis Whitley led Vidalia (2-3, 12-13) with eight points.
