CLINTON &8212; For the second time in five years, the Trinity Lady Saints surprised a lot of people by making it to the MPSA Overall Tournament.

Still, after Tuesday afternoon&8217;s 56-48 loss to the Delta Academy Lady Raiders, no Lady Saints team has yet to advance past the first round.

&8220;We fought hard. The kids fought real hard,&8221; Trinity head ocach Melanie Hall said. &8220;Delta just beat us. I couldn&8217;t be any prouder of any team I&8217;ve ever coached.&8221;

This Lady Saints team did make history by being the first one in Class AA to make it to Overall. The other three teams were in Class A.

Mallory Archer kept Trinity Episcopal (23-12), the No. 3 seed from Class AA, in the game by scoring 24 points. But she was the only Lady Saint to score in double figures.

Delta Academy (31-13), the No. 2 seed from Class A, took a 12-7 lead after one quarter of play and, thanks to a barrage of three-pointers, outscored Trinity 19-15 in the second quarter to take a 31-22 halftime lead.

&8220;Delta hit three three-pointers in a row and we were playing pretty good defense,&8221; Hall said. &8220;We had a hand in their face and they were still making the shots.&8221;
