After six months without a director, the Natchez-Adams County Economic Development Authority has hired a director who could have a bright future in Natchez &8212; and who could help create a bright future for the community.
Jeff Rowell, who is currently director of the Pontotoc Chamber of Commerce, starts work here Jan. 1.
We&8217;re anxious to see what his youth and enthusiasm will be able to bring to the job.
While the EDA has been without a paid director since June, the board &8212; and especially its chairman, Woody Allen &8212; has been effectively leading the organization.
Earlier this fall EDA officials announced they are working closely with a fuel manufacturer to locate a unique plant here, while other projects &8212; including the purchase of the old IP mill &8212; are still humming along.
In addition to hiring a director, the EDA will also have a new board member. The board of supervisors appointed Leroy White to the EDA board to fill the late Dr. John Lee&8217;s position.
With new hands on deck, the EDA will have more resources to accomplish its goals.
Rowell said Natchez has some of the tools it needs to attract industry &8212; including the port and airport &8212; but he will also be asking the community&8217;s help in landing new business. He&8217;s on the right track.
We may not all be on the front lines meeting with potential industries, but we can all show a positive image of our community and pitch in wherever necessary.
