NATCHEZ &8212; Department heads who aired complaints last month regarding the planning department&8217;s site plan review process said this week said the process has improved in recent weeks.
City Engineer David Gardner said he received notification of the last site plan review committee meeting two days before the committee met. And Building Inspector Paul Dawes said he got notification a full week before the meeting.
&8220;We do seem to be getting notification in a lot more timely manner, and I&8217;m really pleased with that,&8221; Gardner said.
Before planning commission members see the site plans, they pass through the committee &8212; a process that gives various city department heads a chance to review plans.
The city planner is responsible for setting those meetings, giving committee members notice of the meetings and getting documents to be reviewed to the other members in advance of the committee meetings.
Early last month, department heads said they sometimes received notices of committee meetings the day of, or sometimes the day after, the meetings were set to take place.
That, some planning commissioners said, resulting in their getting incomplete site plan review reports with which to make their decisions regarding proposed developments.
Deborah Martin, chairwoman of the planning commission, said she&8217;s waiting to see whether commissioners get complete site plan review reports before their next meeting, set for 5:15 p.m. March 16 at the city council chambers on Pearl Street.
&8220;We meet the third Thursday of every month, and we would usually get our packets (of information for that meeting) the Monday before that meeting,&8221; Martin said.
