VIDALIA &8212; A Vidalia High School student was arrested Wednesday for attacking a teacher in the wake of a lunchtime fight.
Shikinley Mitchell, 17, 112 John Dale Drive, and another female student got into a fight in the school&8217;s lunchroom. A teacher on duty, Dorothy Ulmer, intervened.
After separating the students, Mitchell allegedly pushed Ulmer to the ground and kicked her once.
A school official called the Vidalia Police Department, and Lt. Brenda Singleton and Officer Adam Kirk reported and made the arrest.
Mitchell was transferred to the Concordia Parish Sheriff&8217;s Office jail before being released on $500 bond.
She is to appear in Vidalia City Court on the misdemeanor charge.
In Louisiana, anyone 17 years and older is considered an adult in criminal matters.
Chief Billy Hammers said violence towards teachers would not be tolerated.
&8220;It was her duty to break up the fight and the student wants to jump on the teacher? We&8217;re not going to put up with that,&8221; he said.
Disciplinary action relating to the original fight will be handled internally by the school, VPD officers said.
Lt. Singleton-
We&8217;re not going to put
up with kids jumping on teachers. Itw as her duty to break up the fight, and the sut. Wants to jump on the teacher and we&8217;re just not going to put up with that.
