NATCHEZ &8212; American Medical Response showed its newest arrival over the weekend with an ambulance of the future.

The features began with ideas from caregivers such as emergency medical technicians Clint Wilson and Thomas Perry. AMR listened to the suggestions of actual ambulance workers from around the county and made them into a reality with this state-of-the-art ambulance.

Just a few features:

4 The ambulance is equipped with five attendant seating positions that allow medics to sit in aviation-style seat belts while caring for a patient.

4The computer system records a driver&8217;s performance and gives an audible warning if safety parameters are being breached.

4It has much more storage capacity compared to existing ambulances. Some of the shelves are temperature controlled for drug storage.

4 A baby car seat is secured inside, unlike in a standard ambulance.

4The stretcher has a hydraulic lift to help protect workers&8217; backs.

4The ambulance has a fax machine and touch screen electrical controls.

4The attendants can wear radio/intercom headsets for maximum communication.

4The ambulance has a HEPA air filtration system and better temperature control capability.

Perry said he enjoys the air conditioning in the next generation ambulance and hopes to be working in one before he retires. He feels that the roominess of the modern ambulance makes for a more efficient working environment. &8220;I can actually stand up in here,&8221; Perry said.

According to Wilson, it cost about $200,000 to get one of these machines on the road. He also hopes to see them in Natchez sometime in the future. Wilson said AMR only has a few along the west coat that are in use. The rest, including this one, are only being used for show.
