NATCHEZ &8212; Adams Christian lost the first game in the best-of-three MPSA Class AA South State series to the Brookhaven Academy 5-1 Tuesday night.
The loss ended the Rebels&8217; home win streak, which dated back to a loss to Hillcrest in the first game of a doubleheader during the 2003 season. Game 2 is set for Thursday in Brookhaven.
&8220;We got beat,&8221; Adams head coach Ron Rushing said. &8220;They beat us in every aspect of the game.&8221;
&8220;Coach Rushing does a great job of coach those boys, and they have a great team,&8221; Brookhaven head coach Steven Cooksey said. &8220;We are just glad to get a win tonight, but it could have gone either way.&8221;
Cougars pitcher Paul Davis had a great game by holding the Rebels to only two hits on the game.
&8220;Paul threw well tonight and had a great outing,&8221; Cooksey said.
&8220;It wasn&8217;t my greatest game,&8221; Davis said. &8220;I threw and let them hit it and let my defense step up.&8221;
The game went scoreless through the first four innings, and Brookhaven then had a big inning in the fourth by scoring four runs off AC starter Timmy Foster.
The first run came from Corey Dickerson when he smashed a solo home run over the right-field fence. T-Boy Lynch an RBI double to score courtesy runner Price Sessums, and Seth Davis lasered a RBI double down the left-field line to score Lynch to put the Cougars up 3-0.
Right-fielder Steven Covington hit an RBI single up the middle to score Davis.
&8221;Timmy&8217;s a great pitcher,&8221; Cooksey said. &8220;We were able to come in and get a couple of hits in a row.&8221;
The Rebels only run for the game came in the sixth inning. Catcher Eric Perry got a shot into center field which was bobbled around by Cougars to allow C.J Wright to score and make the game 4-1.
&8220;Paul Davis did a good job of keeping us out front and throwing the off speed and did a good job pitching,&8221; Rushing said.
The last score for the Cougars came from Davis hitting into a fielder&8217;s choice in the seventh inning to score Sessums.
