VIDALIA &8212; The tire recycling plant is another step closer for citizens of Vidalia.
The Vidalia Board of Alderman voted Tuesday night to advertise the lease of the 25 acres that the rubber plant will be located. The lease will be advertised in the newspaper, allowing viewing and response at later board meetings.
The board also approved a resolution adopting the National Incident Management System.
The NIMS is required by all federal departments and agencies to use in their emergency preparedness, Mayor Hyram Copeland said.
Nikki&8217;s Restaurant was approved for an occupational license and sign approval to open the new establishment on Carter Street.
In other business the board offered some advice to people who are letting the grass in their yards get too high.
&8220;If I can cut my grass twice a week, I think everyone else should at least be able to cut theirs once a month,&8221; Copeland said.
Copeland also offered help to anyone who couldn&8217;t handle the job. A charge of $150 an hour is the cost for the city to do it.
Vidalia Police can write tickets to those refusing to maintain their lawns.
The board also commended the community support of workers and participants in the 11th Annual Relay for Life.
&8220;When we have someone in need, we try to respond,&8221; Copeland said. &8220;I want to thank all people working on these projects and I am proud of the way they have responded.&8221;
