Vidalia&8212; Graduation means different things for all high school students.
For Vidalia High School seniors it means the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.
&8220;Four very short and fast years ago we left the junior high and started a new cycle all over again,&8221; salutatorian Mark Welch told the large group of parents, friends and school faculty. &8220;Now we must take time to cherish the past, live the present and work for the future.&8221;
Sixty-nine high school graduates from VHS watched the speakers and patiently awaited the piece of paper verifying the fact the high school journey is definitely over.
&8220;Growing up and going to school here has been fun,&8221; student council member and special honors recipient Whitney Porter said. &8220;It&8217;s going to be sad to leave, but I think it will be a good change.&8221;
The graduates all had different ideas about what the next step would be, but most had plans of pursuing more education.
Emily Ledford, member of the Beta Club, special honors recipient and music scholarship recipient said college was definitely in her plans.
&8220;I don&8217;t know exactly what I am going to do with it (degree) yet, but feel the Lord is leading me there.&8221;
Member of the Beta Club and special honors recipient Lissa Grantham is going to Louisiana Tech to pursue a degree as a radiology technician and said she will miss small town life.
&8220;LSU is a little to big to start with,&8221; Grantham said. &8220;I think I&8217;ll like Louisiana Tech because it&8217;s in a smaller town and it&8217;s not too far from here.&8221;
All students said they enjoyed their time growing up and attending school in Vidalia, but think moving on is something they have to do.
As to any last words to the graduating class, Porter said, &8220;Congrats to the class of 2006.&8221;
