PEARL &8212; Alcorn State squared off against Southern University late Saturday night and came away a 9-4 winner in a game to determine who would face Prairie View for the championship at 11 a.m. Sunday at Trustmark Park.

The Braves advanced after disposing of Mississippi Valley, 6-3, Saturday morning behind a strong outing from Earl Smith. The right-hander from California went 6 1/3 while allowing only two earned runs on seven hits, and Matt Chatwin allowed only one hit the rest of the way.

Marcus Davis had three doubles and drove in two runs for the Braves.
