NATCHEZ &8212; Cathy Walker was named the new Adams County administrator Friday afternoon.

After interviewing four candidates, supervisors voted to name Walker, who is currently serving as the department head for the county&8217;s accounting department.

A certified public accountant, Walker has previously worked in the state auditor&8217;s office.

&8220;All of the candidates were excellent,&8221; Supervisors President Darryl Grennell said Friday.&8221;It was really difficult for the board to choose.&8221;

But it was Walker&8217;s experience in the state auditors office that made that stood out among the candidates, Grennell said.

&8220;She was familiar with the state laws that are germane to county government,&8221; Grennell said.

&8220;She has performed audits in the eight county region in Southwest Mississippi.&8221;

Grennell also said that Walker has done an excellent job as a department head and that experience will serve her well as county administrator.

The board received more than 20 resume and applications for the position, Grennel said.

The list was narrowed to eight. Of those eight candidates, four withdrew their name for consideration.

Applications were received after Charlie Brown decided to retire from the position after serving as county administrator for 17 years.

Walker will take office June 1.
