FERRIDAY &8212; Ferriday Police Department officers arrested Roosevelt Harris Holmes Wednesday in connection with a weekend shooting.
Holmes, 25, 321 Iowa St., Ferriday, is charged with attempted second-degree murder for the shooting of Gregory Drane.
Drane, 42, 309 John Glenn Ave., Natchez, was shot on First Street around 4 a.m. Sunday morning, Ferriday Chief of Police Richard Madison said.
&8220;(Wednesday) about 4 (p.m.) we arrested him on E.E. Wallace Boulevard after our officers observed him there,&8221; he said. &8220;We have several eye witnesses and are still investigating this matter.&8221;
Drane is in a Vicksburg hospital and in ICU, Madison said. A FPD investigator went to the hospital to interview the victim, but was unable to because of the victim&8217;s condition, he said. Holmes is currently being held in the Concordia Parish jail.
About this time last year Ferriday saw a crime streak including three shootings and one stabbing in just over 72 hours. No one was killed in last year&8217;s incidents, but were all close calls, Madison said.
All four occurred between acquaintances and arrests were made shortly after they occurred. In November, an argument led to a fatal shooting on Kyle Road. An arrest was made shortly thereafter.
