Vidalia &8212; Sheriff Randy Maxwell is issuing a fire ban for Concordia Parish after three grass fires were reported Wednesday afternoon.
One fire was reported on Tepee Road while another was reported on Highway 908 in Monterey.
Jane Clark, a dispatcher for the Concordia Parish Sheriff&8217;s office, reported another fire near Stacy when a when a motorist had a blow out on his vehicle and he pulled to the side of the road.
&8220;The tire was so hot that the dry grass on the roadside caught fire and it began to spread pretty rapidly,&8221; Clark said.
In a statement, Maxwell urged all area residents, businesses and farmers to refrain from burning anything during the dry period.
&8220;As everyone knows we&8217;ve had a serious lack of rain in recent weeks so during this extremely hot and dry stage, so we&8217;re asking everyone to refrain from burning fields, trash or setting fire to anything at all,&8221; Maxwell said. &8220;The public&8217;s safety is at stake.&8221;
