NATCHEZ &8212; A local artist wants to start a support group in Natchez for anyone displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Jeanne Christie thought about starting a local support group after she called a Louisiana-based counseling group and was told it would not help Mississippi residents.

Christie, who came from New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit, said she wanted to offer a support group for anyone.

She said she hopes to start group meetings at her shop around July 25. Although there will be no licensed councilors, the group will get together and talk about loss and adjustment, she said.

&8220;It is a difficult time for people,&8221; Christie said Friday. &8220;I came here from the hurricane. I lost a lot. It&8217;s hurricane season again. We&8217;re really homesick right now, and I think it&8217;s important we all get together and support each other.

&8220;We&8217;re making a new home in Natchez and letting go of our old homes.&8221;

Christie said she plans to hold meetings every Tuesday around 7 p.m. The group will meet at her shop, Strega Nona&8217;s at 334 Main Street.

Anyone interested should call Christie at (504) 722-8660.
