VIDALIA &8212; With five generations of family gathered around at Lee and Yvonne Bean&8217;s home on Apple Street in Vidalia, Calvin and Amy Cooke prepare to say goodbye and spend another four weeks on the road.
Calvin and Amy, of Monterey, have been show car team representatives for Joe Gibbs Racing for three years. Their job involves traveling the country to show off a retired bright green race car.
&8220;It&8217;s fun and exciting,&8221; Amy said. &8220;But you do get homesick. It&8217;s basically like any other job except that you&8217;re never at home.&8221;
The couple learned of the job through Amy&8217;s uncle. They put in a resume and &8220;lucked up on the job&8221; two years later.
Calvin has always loved race car driving.
&8220;I grew up near Michigan International Speedway,&8221; he said. &8220;I love the speed.&8221;
Calvin likes to drive his bright green beauty, and says the speed really gives him a &8220;rush.&8221;
&8220;His face still lights up when he gets in that car,&8221; Amy said.
Two of Calvin&8217;s most favorite possessions are championship rings, given to him after Tony Stewart won the Nextel Cup Championship and the Brickyard 400.
&8220;Not everyone can get one of these,&8221; he said, with a big, proud grin.
The husband and wife team have been working together at various jobs for nearly seven years.
&8220;The secret,&8221; Amy whispered, &8220;is that you have to really love each other.&8221;
