NATCHEZ &8212; Sometimes losses have a way of lingering.
The Natchez Lady Bulldogs (0-3) can attest to that after Tuesday&8217;s 28-0 loss to the visiting Hazlehurst Lady Indians (1-1).
&8220;I don&8217;t know what&8217;s happening,&8221; coach Charlie Williams said. &8220;We were in the game during our last two games, but it seems like those losses carried over into this game.&8221;
For Hazlehurst, the win was the first of the season as the team rebounded from its season opening 8-4 loss to Wesson. Coach Cola Banks was pleased with the way her team performed; citing their focus as what allowed them to win.
&8220;Focus &8212; That is the word right there. Focus in the field and focus at the plate,&8221; coach Banks said.
Focus seemed to be an issue for Natchez, as repeated errors in the field and a meager four hits at the plate resulted in the lopsided loss.
&8220;That was the whole picture, we had a complete lack of focus,&8221; Williams said.
Another factor dragging the Lady Bulldogs down is a lack of depth. With only nine players dressing out, the Lady Bulldogs are right at the cusp of having enough players to play. This lack of players has caused problems already this season.
&8220;I think fatigue is becoming a factor,&8221; Williams said. &8220;We had a game last week, where one of my players was ejected and I had no one to substitute her with, so we played with eight.
&8220;Where is our school pride at? I know there are other girls who could be out here but they aren&8217;t,&8221; Williams said. &8220;I would like to see some more girls out here working with the ones we have to better represent our school.&8221;
Williams continued by saying that he was pleased with the girls, who have been working hard, but the team is suffering from the lack of depth and competition for positions.
In a 28-0 loss there are few bright spots, but Williams was quick to compliment the job done by Torie Paxson, who pitched her first game ever for the Lady Bulldogs.
&8220;She was fantastic,&8221; Williams said. &8220;We just need to get her some more support.&8221;
