NATCHEZ &8212; Cathedral coach Ken Beesley earned his 200th career victory in the Green Wave&8217;s 41-21 win over Enterprise-Lincoln.
&8220;A win is a win, but I guess some are better than others,&8221; Beesley said.
&8220;This is a milestone in my legacy as a coach here. I love this school and it&8217;s unbelievable that this day has finally come.&8221;
From the opening minutes of the game there was little doubt that number 200 would be in the books by the end of the fourth quarter. In the game&8217;s first three minutes, Cathedral jumped out to a 13-0 lead thanks to a pair of Patrick McDonough passes.
McDonough deserved as much credit in the win as any
individual player, as the senior scored through for four touchdowns and 218 yards and ran for fifth touchdown.
&8220;We came out on fire and jumped out to a good lead on them,&8221; Cathedralquarterback Patrick McDonough said. &8220;Everyone was feeling good and executed
to perfection it was special game and an honor to have been here. I felt lucky and privileged to have been a part of it.&8221;
Cathedral lineman Jacob Cowart, who recovered a fumble to set up the Green Wave&8217;s second touchdown, spoke of the win as eloquently as anyone.
&8220;It was a special win. I feel blessed to have been here been here for this win,&8221; Cowart said. &8220;A lot of people over the years put in a lot of hard work to help coach Beesley achieve 200 wins and I just feel blessed to have been one of them.&8221;
Enterprise coach Roe Burns, has been on the opposing sideline several times against coach Beesley, had nothing but praise for the Green Wave and coach Beesley.
&8220;They&8217;re the best offense we&8217;ve faced all year,&8221; Burns said. &8220;Ken (Beesley) is a class guy, who&8217;s teams always show a lot of character and are always well prepared.&8221;
After the game the team dumped the water cooler over Beesley&8217;s head and former and current players gathered on the field to celebrate the milestone victory.
The school presented Beesley with a game ball, flowers for his wife, a plaque and a hunting rifle to commemorate the 200 wins.
After the game Beesley spoke about the players, who played under him over the years.
&8220;It&8217;s a great honor to have coached all these guys here tonight,&8221; Beesley said. &8220;I&8217;m just glad I was along for the ride. I&8217;ve been very blessed. I may not have been the richest man in the world, but tonight I feel like the richest man in the world.&8221;
Beesley will try to earn win number 201 next week at home as the Green Wave take on Stringer for homecoming.
