Anders, Thomas to have run-off

VIDALIA &8212; Andy Anders and Sam Thomas will meet in a run-off on Nov. 7 to determine who fills the House of Representatives District 21 seat.

Ferriday native Anders received 49 percent of the vote in Saturday&8217;s election, while Thomas, of Tallulah, received 28 percent. Clayton native James Lee was eliminated with only 24 percent of the vote.

Because none of the candidates received more than 50 percent of the votes, a run-off is necessary.

Anders won the race in Concordia Parish, but numbers from East Carroll, Madison and Tensas parishes that came late Saturday night made the race closer.

In Concordia Parish, Anders took 3,339 votes, 2,019 more than James Lee and 65.6 percent of the total votes. Thomas only received 430 votes out of a total of 5,788 in Concordia Parish.

In East Carroll Parish, Thomas received the most votes, 755, to Lee&8217;s 321 and Anders 232. There were 1,308 total votes in East Carroll.

In Madison Parish, Thomas received 1,105 votes, while Lee received 271 and Anders received 232. There were 1,611 total votes in Madison.

In Tensas Parish, Anders got the majority of votes with 813 out of 1,474. Thomas received 340 votes; Lee received 321.

Total voter turnout in the House race was 9,482.

4 Republican Jay Dardenne and Democrat Francis C. Heitmeier will meet in a runoff for Secretary of State.

4James Donelon and James David Cain will face off for the job of insurance commissioner.

4Fred Butcher won the Concordia school board District 1, Place A seat.

4 Incumbent Ricky Raven will maintain his District 4-A school board seat.

4Daryle Price will fill the school board 4-B seat.

4Heath Edwards won the race for Ridgecrest police chief.

4 Douglas Tisdale and Willena C. Varnado will be in a runoff for Ridgecrest alderman.
