VIDALIA &8212; A local man is in custody after reportedly kidnapping his 19-month-old daughter and her mother Monday morning.
Concordia Parish Sheriff&8217;s Office Investigator Jimmy Darden said Donald Ray Walker, 30, turned himself in to a sheriff&8217;s deputy in Clayton and was brought in to the sheriff&8217;s office at 4:10 p.m. Monday.
Walker was charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery and a violation of protective orders in connection with the kidnapping of his wife, Amanda Walker, 27, and his
daughter Takiyah.
&8220;The two are going through a divorce and on Oct. 9 there was a restraining order placed against Walker,&8221; Darden said.
Darden said Walker kidnapped the two victims using a pistol to get them into the van Monday morning.
Darden said the arrest was thanks to everyone&8217;s response to the amber alert.
&8220;It&8217;s a relief that he was caught,&8221; Darden said. &8220;We had calls from all over Louisiana from people responding to the alert. That really shows that these things work.&8221;
According to a press release, Amanda&8217;s sister reported to the sheriff&8217;s office at 7:45 a.m. that witnesses saw Walker force Amanda and the child into a van at 119 Cottonwood St., Ridgecrest.
According to the release, Walker drove off in the van and sometime later switched to a 2003 beige Buick Century.
The van was found at the Levee Heights subdivision on Concordia Parish.
Darden said Walker, after some persuasion from his family, decided to drop Amanda and Takiyah off at his mother&8217;s and turn himself in.
&8220;Both the victims were checked for injuries at Riverland Medical Center as part of procedure,&8221; Darden said.
Public Information Officer Kathy Stevens said she is thankful for the work of Lt. Ernie Banks, Deputy Kenneth Tucker and investigators David Hedrick and Darden.
&8220;They have worked tirelessly on this all day and they did a great job,&8221; Stevens said.
