Housing development is good news

Yet again, development and new businesses topped the good news in the Miss-Lou last week, making the weeks to come look even brighter.

Here are some of the highlights from last week:

4Developers from Baton Rouge are ready to spend $20 million in Natchez, giving us what we&8217;ve asked for &8212; more housing.

The Preserve would be a 30-acre development south of the Natchez Mall. The plans are for 119 housing units, including 79 single-family dwellings and 40 townhouse lots. Each unit would be a minimum of 1,350 square feet.

As local consultant Butch Stewart called it, the &8220;industry&8221; would be a shot in the arm for the area economically, but would also fill a need for housing in a tight market.

4The Avoyelles Gambling Recovery Center has extended its services to Ferriday and in turn the whole Miss-Lou. Local counselor Edward Lytel has started group and individual therapy sessions at the center&8217;s Ferriday office. Lytel has a true interest in helping people, especially those in his own community, and we hope his success is immeasurable.

4Ferriday is collecting ideas to mark the 100th anniversary of the town in October. Organizers are hoping the event can relay town history and attract new visitors. They&8217;ll continue collecting ideas at a Chamber of Commerce meeting today.

We hope the week to come is filled with as much good news as the last.
