Rebels travel to Vicksburg for district showdown

NATCHEZ &8212; The ACCS Rebels (4-4, 2-1 district) find themselves in a spot that seemed almost unthinkable a few weeks ago &8212; virtually assured of a playoff spot.

&8220;Because we have played the toughest schedule in AA football, if we beat Porters Chapel (5-3, 1-1) Friday night we&8217;ll get the first playoff game at our place,&8221; Marks said. &8220;Right now it&8217;ll be against Bowling Green. If we should lose to Porters Chapel, then we would meet Centreville on their field. I would rather beat Porters Chapel.&8221;

The district match-up will go down in Vicksburg Friday night, and Marks said Porters Chapel would bring plenty of firepower to the party.

&8220;They&8217;ve got a big, 6&8217;4&8221; quarterback,&8221; Marks said. &8220;He can throw a bullet 50 yards. I watched the film of when they played Huntington, and he got in the shotgun and hurt them. Porters Chapel is capable of beating anybody, and we&8217;ve got to play on their field.&8221;

Marks said that Porters Chapel would most likely play a goal line defense against his run-heavy team.

&8220;We&8217;ve watched them run a 4-3, a 5-3 and when people are running over them they run a 6-2,&8221; Marks said. &8220;We&8217;ll run 70 yards against a goal line defense if we have to. Everybody lines up like that against us. We just haven&8217;t been able to throw.&8221;

The Rebels&8217; 2-4 start had many in the Miss-Lou concerned, but Marks said ACCS seems to have turned the corner on the season.

&8220;We&8217;ve got everybody healthy, and since then we&8217;ve been playing better football,&8221; he said. &8220;Our pass defense is getting better every week. They were all new kids, and they&8217;re getting better, hustling and tackling better. The whole team&8217;s playing a lot better.&8221;

ACCS will visit Porters Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Central Private at Centreville

The Centreville Tigers (7-1) will get one of their toughest tests of the year Friday when Central Private (5-2) comes calling.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Tallulah at Tensas

In a battle of 2-6 teams, the Tensas Chiefs will get the home game in their quest for a third win and a strong finish to the season. Tallulah&8217;s young squad will also be looking for momentum.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
