Slow summer giving way to busy season

This isn&8217;t your average Monday. In fact it&8217;s the first day of busiest season of the year. The lazy days of summer are over &8212; yes, the heat is still here &8212; and now the action begins.
The first area schools will begin classes today, and whether you have a direct connection or not, you&8217;ll be affected. Football, extracurricular and test scores aside, news happens when school is in session.
We&8217;ll have good and bad news to come in the weeks ahead, but let&8217;s revel in the last week of summer one more time.
4 The very smallest of new area industries has taken up shop in a hangar at the Natchez-Adams County airport to launch balloons and provide wireless communication for various companies. Arizona-based Space Data Corp., has employed two locals to do the launching and pays a small rent fee to the airport.
4 The water business is booming, a good sign for the local economy as a whole. Natchez Water Works has gained 131 new customers this year, including about seven hookups at new buildings or construction sites each month. Water taps are just one of the ways we can measure the economic excitement most of the community feels right now.
4 Representatives from local law enforcement agencies and governments were greeted by community-minded residents and neighbors across the city and county for the annual National Night Out. The support shows that Natchez residents understand their role in keeping us all safe.
4 High school football teams hit the fields &8212; some in pads &8212; for the first practice of the season. If these boys can bear the heat to perfect their game plans, the least we can do is go support them when the temperature drops on Friday nights in the fall.
