HATTIESBURG &8212; The Cathedral Green Wave played one good half of football and one bad one in the team&8217;s 45-28 loss on the road to Mercy Cross.

&8220;It was a little bit of us not playing well in the second half, they just wore us down,&8221; coach Ken Beesley said. &8220;We got the breaks in the first half, they got them in the second half.&8221;

After recovering a fumble for a touchdown and two Patrick McDonough touchdown passes, Cathedral took a 28-24 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Cathedral was unable to hold back the Mercy Cross ground game, powered by Jonathan Lang, who rushed for 335 yards and 3 touchdowns.

&8220;In five minutes, we went from leading by four points to being behind 17,&8221; Beesley said.

In the second half, Cathedral suffered what seemed like an endless string of errors. On third-and-one, Patrick McDonough&8217;s pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by Lang.

On the following kickoff the ball bounced off of a member of the Green Wave&8217;s return team and landed in the arms of a Mercy Cross defender.

On the following Green Wave possession McDonough was picked off once again, and Mercy Cross converted the turnover for points.

Next week Cathedral will travel to play Lake.

&8220;We&8217;re just going to try and regroup, hopefully we can hang in there and come out ahead against Lake,&8221; Beesley said. &8220;We either win next week or we can hang them up for the year, so right now all we&8217;re focused on is next week.&8221;
