FERRIDAY &8212; Only one more hurdle stood between the Ferriday Trojans and their date with destiny next week against Vidalia, and it proved to be very little hurtle at all.
The Trojans (7-1, 2-0 in district play) ran over, around and through Lake Providence (3-6, 0-2) 48-6 in their final district game before next week&8217;s rivalry match-up.
Ferriday head coach James McFarland said he could describe the game in one word.
&8220;Complete,&8221; he said. &8220;We stayed away from penalties, we stayed away from turnovers and we put the game away early.&8221;
Early, indeed. The Trojans were ahead 21-0 after a quarter of play and 41-0 at halftime.
Montario Tennessee continued to play well, rushing 11 times for 101 yards. Matthew Smith also had a big day, carrying the ball three times for 40 yards and catching three passes for 129 yards.
The Trojans rolled up 353 yards of total offense.
McFarland said it was a total team effort.
&8220;It&8217;d be difficult to single out any one player,&8221; he said. &8220;Montario ran the ball well, and Matthew Smith ran the ball and caught some passes. The entire team played well. It&8217;s hard to find a particular player when you win 48-6.&8221;
McFarland said he felt the win was a great way to tune up for Vidalia.
&8220;Any time you just hear the word &8216;Vidalia&8217; you&8217;re ready to go,&8221; he said. &8220;I hear they&8217;ve got the best running back around. I know my running backs are good, so we&8217;ll get to see who&8217;s the best.&8221;
Ferriday and Vidalia will meet next week at 7 p.m.
