Vidalia now must beat the Ferriday Trojans at Ferriday next Friday night to win the district championship and get in the playoffs.

Franklin County 14, Tylertown 12

MEADVILLE &8212; The Franklin County Bulldogs nearly let the Region 7-3A championship slip out of their hands Friday night. Literally.

Franklin County coughed up the ball twice on special teams, but its defense, despite being on the field for nearly the entire second half, made up for it as the Bulldogs held on for a dramatic 14-12 win over the Tylertown Chiefs.

&8220;We turned the ball over too much in the second half,&8221; Franklin County head coach Grady McCluskey said. &8220;But we held them to 12 and we did just enough on offense. We went undefeated in region play.&8221;

Jordan Hunt and Preston Griffith accounted for most of the yardage on the ground and both touchdowns for Franklin County (9-1, 6-0), the No. 2 ranked team in Class 3A.

Hunt, who had 71 yards rushing, scored on a 10-yard run and Jace Carlock&8217;s extra point gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead with 2:37 to go in the first quarter.

Griffith, who had 158 yards on 23 carries, had a 15-yard touchdown run and Carlock&8217;s point-after increased the lead to 14-0 with just 1:33 remaining in the second quarter.

But just as it appeared that Franklin County would take the momentum into the second half, Tylertown (6-3, 5-1) responded with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Adam Fayard to J.D. Radcliff with one second left until halftime to trail 14-6 at halftime and keep its dream of the region title very much alive.

The second half pretty much belonged to the Chiefs, at least in terms of possessing the ball, as they controlled the clock by keeping the Bulldogs&8217; defense on the field for a good bit of that half.

Franklin County did not help itself by fumbling the ball on the opening kickoff and later on a punt return.

&8220;Tylertown&8217;s got a good team,&8221; McCluskey said. &8220;They have four or five good skill players. We only had two or three possessions the entire second half. But we made an interception at the end and had a sack.&8221;

Tylertown&8217;s other touchdown was with 11:40 to go in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard run by Fayard, but the two-point conversion run came up short.

Jefferson County 53, Richland 13

FAYETTE &8212; Jermaine Clark had nine carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns as the Tigers ended their season on a positive note with a blowout win over the Rangers in Region 6-3A action.

Jefferson County (4-6, 2-4) opened up a close game by scoring 39 straight points over the second and third quarters to turn a 7-6 deficit to a 45-7 lead early in the third quarter.

The Tigers had 293 of their 322 total yards on the ground. The only thing that didn&8217;t sit well with head coach James Herrington was the nine penalties for 100 yards. But, he had to be more than pleased with the defense, which forced three turnovers.

WCCA 33, Tallulah 12

TALLULAH, La. &8212; Colin Dor/ had over 100 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns while Sean Venezia scored three touchdowns three different ways as the Rams finished District 7-A play with a 2-2 record.

Venezia, who had over 150 yards rushing, scored on a 67-yard touchdown run, a 65-yard punt return and a 63-yard interception return for WCCA (4-6).

Tallulah (2-8, 0-4) made sure it would not be shut out as the Trojans scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Montgomery 47, Block 8

MONTGOMERY, La. &8212; The Tigers (5-4, 3-1) moved closer to clinching a berth in the Class 1A playoffs with a win over the Bears (0-9, 0-4) Friday night in a District 3-1A game

West Marion 22, Wilkinson County 6

FOXWORTH &8212; The Wildcats (0-10, 0-6) finished their worst season in head coach John Moore&8217;s nine years with a loss on the road to the Trojans (4-6, 1-5) in the Region 7-3A finale for both teams.
