VIDALIA &8212; The turnaround is now complete.

The Reed Insurance Cowboys, who finished last season 1-6 in the Vidalia Youth Football League, capped off a 7-0 season with a 16-6 victory over the Redco Saints Saturday morning in the VYF 12 & Under Super Bowl at Dee Faircloth Stadium.

The Cowboys came out like a house of fire early, scoring on a 48-yard touchdown run by Cody White with 3:45 remaining in the first quarter. Michael Whitley added the two-point conversion to give the Cowboys an 8-0 lead.

After a Saints fumble, Whitley scored a few plays later on a three-yard run, and the two-point conversion pushed the lead to 16-0 with 1:22 remaining in the first quarter.

The Saints finally got on the board with 1:34 to go until halftime when Fadarrius Green caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Deyondris Simmons. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the score at 16-6.

The second half saw several scoring opportunities for both sides, but neither was able to punch it in the end zone, giving the Cowboys a 16-6 win.

Cowboys head coach Jamie Keating said while the second half was less than he expected, he couldn&8217;t be unhappy with a Super Bowl championship.

&8220;I don&8217;t really know what happened (after the first quarter),&8221; Keating said. &8220;I think they just saw what we were doing and made some adjustments to it, but all that counts is what happened in the end. We won the game.&8221;

Saints head coach Brian Davis said his team simply didn&8217;t make the plays it needed to make.

&8220;We just didn&8217;t execute,&8221; he said. &8220;That&8217;s not to take away anything from the Cowboys. They played a great game, we just didn&8217;t do what we needed to do.&8221;

Both coaches were extremely pleased with the play of their teams over the year.

&8220;I think it was our players just like to hit,&8221; Keating said. &8220;They want to get out there and hit people. They practice hard, and then when it&8217;s over they still want to hit people. They worked hard all year.&8221;

&8220;Over the course of the season we made some big strides,&8221; Davis said. &8220;My goal is to teach fundamentals, and we went with catching, blocking and tackling. We had a lot of guys make things happen for us. Dee Green, Darren Knapp, Tre Hall, Deonte Jefferson, Keiwaun Miles and Caleb McJimpsey all played well for us.&8221;

Monterey Merchants Packers 14, McDonald&8217;s Cowboys 8

On paper, the undefeated McDonald&8217;s Cowboys appeared to be big favorites heading into Saturday&8217;s 10 & Under Super Bowl against the Monterey Merchants Packers.

Don&8217;t tell that to the Packers.

A 22-yard Dillon Smith touchdown run gave the Packers the lead in the third quarter, and a Dylan Jones interception late in the fourth sealed the win.

&8220;I was scared I was going to miss it,&8221; Jones said. &8220;After that, I just caught it.&8221;

A 65-yard touchdown reception by Lee Jackson with 2:42 remaining was called back due to a block in the back penalty, which eventually led to the interception.

Smith scored the first touchdown for the Packers early in the second quarter, and Jones added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

The Cowboys tied things up just before halftime with a Jarvis Turner touchdown reception, tying the game at 8 heading into the locker room.

Packers head coach Stephen Cowan was proud of his players&8217; effort.

&8220;After two years of these players sacrificing everything kids this young can sacrifice, this is the end result,&8221; he said. &8220;These boys worked hard every day. I just want to thank the Cowboys for such a great game. The competition level is higher here than it has ever been.&8221;

Lee Ford, head coach of the Cowboys, said he was disappointed with the close of the season but was happy with his team&8217;s effort.

&8220;We&8217;re just going to learn from our mistakes and come back next year,&8221; he said. &8220;My team had a successful season. We came close.&8221;

Assistant Cowboys coach Clarence Green echoed Ford&8217;s sentiments.

&8220;We had a terrific season. We&8217;ll come back.&8221;

Jones said it felt great to walk off the field a championship.

&8220;It feels great to win,&8221; he said. &8220;I&8217;m out here with all my friends and we won the championship.&8221;
