FERRIDAY &8212; Mayor Gene Allen was forced by the Ferriday Board of Aldermen to submit a check for $8,100 Tuesday evening.

The check, aldermen Johnnie Brown and Glen Henderson said, was supposed to be given to them two months ago to pay for football equipment the town would buy for a town peewee league.

&8220;You (Mayor Allen) failed us by not giving the board the check as was the agreement in the first ordinance,&8221; Henderson said.

Although he did write the check, Allen said he placed it in the town&8217;s vault because he first wanted to receive documentation that the town indeed had a football league and he wanted to know how many children would be joining the league, thus know how much equipment to buy.

&8220;I didn&8217;t want to give the taxpayers&8217; money away and not have them aware of what it&8217;s being used for,&8221; Allen said. &8220;I just don&8217;t feel comfortable doing that.&8221;

But the board passed a new resolution requiring Allen to give the check to the board&8217;s recreation committee (Henderson and Brown) within 15 days.
