VIDALIA &8212; Today is the last day for early voting in Louisiana and Concordia Parish Registrar Golda Ensminger said the turnout has been a good one.

&8220;There have been times we&8217;ve had lines and there have been times we have lulled, but it&8217;s been a good turnout from the parish,&8221; Ensminger said.

Recent state legislation eliminated the previously needed list of reasons to vote early, Ensminger said, making it open to everyone.

Early voting for this runoff election started last Thursday.

Ensminger said the registrar&8217;s office has received 410 ballots from early voters so far.

Of the 113 absentee ballots the registrar&8217;s office sent out, Ensminger said the office has received 46.

The reason the turnout has been so good in the parish, Ensminger said, is because people are coming out to vote for a new District 21 State Representative and a new Secretary of State.

The run-off election for District 21 is between Andy Anders of Ferriday and Samuel Thomas of Tallulah and the run-off for Secretary of State is between Republican Jay Dardenne and Democrat Francis C. Heitmeier.

Ensminger said the demographic of early voters has been a mix.

&8220;We&8217;ve had old, young, white and black coming out to take advantage of early voting,&8221; Ensminger said. &8220;We even had some college students, who knew they wouldn&8217;t be here in November, come in over the weekend and vote.&8221;

Ensminger said polls for early voting on Tuesday would be open from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
