Things started bad for Ferriday early, as Excelsior jumped out to a 14-1 lead and never looked back.

LaDerek Metcalfe led the Trojans with 21 points.

Despite the fact that the Trojans were playing a star-studded team, head coach James Davis said he felt his team could have stayed in the game.

&8220;The thing I felt we didn&8217;t do early was establish our inside game,&8221; Davis said. &8220;We needed to get some good, high percentage shots, and we didn&8217;t do it. The Dunn brothers were something else. They were everything they&8217;re cracked up to be. When you&8217;ve got a player like (LaceDarius) and someone to compliment him like his brother, you&8217;ve got a good team.&8221;

For his part, Excelsior head coach Lionel Mosby felt his team hadn&8217;t played its best game.

&8220;They played average,&8221; he said. &8220;I&8217;m not too happy. We had too many turnovers and too many one-on-ones. We need to play better team ball.&8221;

Matthew Smith scored 13 points for Ferriday, and Montrell Tennessee added 11. Jarrell Scott scored 15 for Excelsior Christian, while LaDarrian Williams pitched in 12.

With a 1-4 start, things are looking down for Ferriday, but Davis said he is confident the Trojans will turn things around.

&8220;We&8217;ll turn it around,&8221; he said. &8220;Right now we&8217;re not playing good defense, we&8217;re not blocking out, we&8217;re missing our free throws and we&8217;re missing layups. If we get those taken care of, we&8217;ll be all right.&8221;

The Trojans will travel to face Tensas High tonight.
