LAKE &8212; The Cathedral Green Wave football team&8217;s season came to end Friday night, as the team lost 48-22 to the Lake Hornets.
An inability to contain the Hornets&8217; ground game cost the Green Wave dearly, as the team gave up 420 yards rushing on 54 carries and surrendered 23 first downs.
A pair of first quarter touchdowns by running back Jeremy Johnson, and a 56-yard run by Demario Combs put the Hornets up 18-0 with 2:56 left to play in the first quarter.
Cathedral answered on the following possession as quarterback Patrick McDonough found Forest White open for a 60-yard touchdown.
Lake wasted no time answering on the Hornets next possession as Thadeus Walker galloped in from 18 yards out to put the Hornets up 26-7.
Cathedral answered once again as Braxton Fondren scored on a three-yard run to cut the Hornets lead to two scores, 26-14 with 7:02 left to play in the first half.
From there it was mostly downhill, as Lake ripped off a pair of unanswered touchdowns and took a 42-14 lead intro halftime.
Cathedral scored their final touchdown of the night in the third quarter when Daniel Culbert pulled down a McDonough pass from 13 yards out.
McDonough finished the game with 218 yards passing and two touchdowns. McDonough&8217;s performance provided one of the few bright spots of the night, as the senior eclipsed the 2,000 mark for the season.
