NATCHEZ &8212; Alia Frank and Ke&8217;Airra Jones proved to be too much for a young Ferriday team as the Natchez High Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Trojans 57-22 Saturday night at the Natchez High Hoops Classic.

The Lady Bulldogs (3-4) claimed second place in the girls division by going 2-1 at the tournament held at the Mary Jean Irving Memorial Gymnasium on the Natchez High campus.

Frank led all scorers with a game-high 16 points and Jones had 15 points as the Lady Bulldogs. Another key factor was the play of their defense, which allowed only four points in each of the final three quarters.

Also, Natchez High&8217;s defense held every one of Ferriday&8217;s players that got in the scoring column under double digits. Jalisa Davis and Jasmine Upchurch led the Lady Trojans with six points each.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 19-10 lead after one quarter of play and 28-14 at halftime. Any thoughts of a rally by Ferriday were squashed by a 20-4 advantage by the home team in the third quarter.

The Lady Rangers remained undefeated and won first place in the girls division of the tournament after their impressive win over the Lady Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.

Valencia McFarland had 22 points and Kayla Robinson added 20 points to lead four players in double figures for Raymond (8-0), which opened up a close game with a 20-8 edge in the second quarter for a commanding 43-23 halftime lead and never looked back.

Raymond boys 45, Franklin County 36

The Rangers made it a clean sweep of the Natchez High Hoops Classic by winning first place in the boys division as they held off a fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Bulldogs Saturday night.

Raymond took control in the early stages of the game and led 21-9 at the end of the first quarter. It was a good thing because Franklin County hung tough with the Rangers during the second and third quarters.

However, that first quarter proved to be too much for the Bulldogs to overcome even though they outscored the Rangers 14-8 in the fourth quarter.

Joe McCoy led Raymond with 16 points. Jarvis Hunt had 13 points and Brian Bolin had 12 points to lead Franklin County.

Natchez High boys 55, Ferriday 50

NATCHEZ &8212; The Bulldogs played a solid first half, struggled big time in the third quarter and held on to defeat the Trojans Saturday night to finish in second place in the boys division.

Ferriday had no answer for Natchez High&8217;s Jason Bruce, who led all scorers with 27 points. Joshua Upchurch led the Trojans with 15 points.

Natchez High (3-4) shot the ball as well as it has all season in the first quarter, which enabled the Bulldogs to take a 22-13 lead at the end of the quarter. The Bulldogs took a 36-26 lead at halftime.

Then both teams went ice cold from the field in the third quarter. Ferriday outscored Natchez High 6-4 in that quarter to trail 40-32. The Trojans scored 18 points in the fourth quarter, but their defense couldn&8217;t make the key stops it needed to rally for the win.
