RIDGELAND — The St. Andrews Saints scored three goals in the first half as the defending Class 1A/2A/3A state champions in boys’ soccer defeated the Cathedral Green Wave 5-0 Monday night.
Yet despite the shutout loss which dropped them to 3-2-1, Green Wave head coach Rick Freeman said he was pleased with the team’s effort against the Saints.
“Overall, I was happy with their performance,” Freeman said. “We went toe to toe with them. We stayed in the midfield with them. They capitalized on our mistakes. They got through our defense and got by our goalkeeper on a couple of one-on-one situations.”
Jerrod Myers scored the first goal for St. Andrews at the sixth minute of the first half. Aubrey Green then added a goal at the 22nd minute and Daniel Duddleston scored at the 30th minute to give the Saints a 3-0 halftime lead.
“Logan Foley was playing goalkeeper tonight. He did everything he could. Just some good plays by them,” Freeman said. “We put him in tonight to get some good training.”
With the lineup change, Freeman played Jesse Morrison at the midfield position. Foley kept the score from being even more lopsided by making 14 saves.

RIDGELAND — The Lady Green Wave had no chance against the Lady Saints, who rolled to an impressive win.
We were just looking for a learning experience, Lady Green Wave head coach David Gaudé said. We learned some different defensive skills that we dont normally learn. I think that’s going to do us some good in district play. It was a cold, cold night. We never gave up.
