Memorial services for Jerry Roberts, 37, of Vidalia, who died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, near Waco, Texas, will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Vidalia, with the Rev. Dan Glenn and the Rev. David McGuffee officiating.

Burial will follow at Pinehill Baptist Church Cemetery, near Urania, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home, Vidalia.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church Multi-purpose Building in Vidalia.
Roberts was born Feb. 5, 1969, in Shreveport, the son of Sonny Roberts and Sue Cockerham. He was a resident of Vidalia, a patient care representative for Louisiana Home Care, and he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia. He served in the U. S. Army from 1987 until 1992, where he attained the rank of Sergeant E5.

While serving in the Army, he was stationed in Iraq during operation Desert Storm. Jerry was involved in his community. He was serving District 3B on the Concordia Parish School Board, an official with MPSA for the last seven years, and he was a volunteer coach at Vidalia High School. Jerry was instrumental in all aspects of the new field house currently under construction at Vidalia High School.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Lonnie Roberts Sr.; and maternal grandparents, Ed and Bertha McDaniel.

Survivors include his wife, Deanie Roberts, of Vidalia; son, Graham Roberts of Vidalia; daughter, Karianna Roberts of Vidalia; mother and stepfather, Sue Cockerham and husband, James, of Vidalia; father, Sonny Roberts of Clarks, La.; sisters, Cindy Thornton of Vidalia and Pam Frank and husband, Buddy, of Natchez; grandmother, Selena Aycock Roberts of Olla, La.; father and mother-in-law, Glen and Fern McKeithen of Olla; sister-in-law, Becky Kuykendall and husband, Ren, of Tyler, Texas; brother-in-law, Caleb McKeithen and wife, Kelly, of Grayson, La.; stepbrother, Courtney Cockerham; stepsister, Nicole Lilly and husband, Kenneth; nephews, Zac and Aaron Wesson, Slick Frank, Greyson and Griffin Kuykendall and Colson Thornton; nieces, Magen Roberson and husband, Keith, Kaitlin Gaines and Maecee Thornton.

Pallbearers will be Gary Simpson, Dee Faircloth, Johnny Lee Hoffpauir, Tracy Howard, Ren Kuykendall, Phillip Timmothy, Gary Paul Parnham, and Denny Hinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb McKeithen, Slick Frank, Zac Wesson, Aaron Wesson, Brett Hinson, Buddy Frank, Wade Thornton, Buddy Rouse, Shelby Ensminger, Carl Fuqua and the 2004 and 2005 Football and Baseball Teams of Vidalia and Fellow MPSA Officials.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vidalia Field House Fund at Concordia Bank and Trust.
